Orientation Prompt

Well, hello.  I’ve done so many of these writing prompts, and they are always so fun.  Well, my first one wasn’t so fun, actually.  I was just like you.  My first prompt was nerve-wracking.  Maybe it wasn’t nerve-wracking to you just now, but it was for me, and I’m a confident guy, but I was going to have to read my writing?  In front of strangers?  And, I had just written it?  It’s a bit like throwing up in front of strangers the first time, but it gets better.  I now use writing prompts regularly for my educational consulting.  Bisti Writing Project is in my blood and my soul now.

I kept trying to type Bisti there, and I did it three times.  Each time, it stubbornly self-corrected to the word Bits.   That’s appropriate.  As new fellows, you will continually pick up little bits of information, wisdom, fun and funny anecdotes, etc.

My summer institute was in 2007, and I’ve been involved with the Bisti Writing Project in numerous ways since that time.  My name is Pat Swope, and I will be your tech liaison, a demo demonstrator, and friend for this institute and from here on.  I heard Michael welcome all of you, but let me also welcome you.  Welcome to the writing project!  You are about to take off on an amazing journey!  Frances has stated before that writing project is a TRUE professional learning community, and I completely agree.

Ack!  One minute left and I haven’t even written about my object!  It’s smooth.  It’s clear, but not entirely clear, a bit foggy.  It has some lines or cracks through it.  Hmmm, it could be a metaphor for this Leadership Institute.   Smooth, not entirely clear, and definitely not perfect.  Fitting.
